A total of 29 people injured in a pile-up on a highway in east China’s Jiangsu Province on Saturday have been sent to a nearby military hospital for treatment three hours after the accident.
At least two people were killed and dozens injured in the accident in the city of Changzhou.
Ms. Lu, one of the many people injured in the pile-up, recalled the horrific accident as she waited to be treated at the hospital.
“I didn’t know what was happening. Our car was amid the other cars, and suddenly the cars in front of us piled up. Then the cars behind us crashed into us. I have got injuries to my face and legs,” said Ms. Lu.
Lu, who was on her way from Changzhou to Suzhou with her husband and child, said it was too late for her husband to stop the car when he found the pile-up in front of them.
“It was too late to brake due to the heavy fog,” she said.
The People’s Liberation Army (PLA) 101 Hospital launched emergency meausres after receiving orders to treat the injured in the accident. A total of 29 people have been sent to the hospital, including seven who are seriously injured.
“All the experts came to their positions within five minutes. We were prepared to treat a number of injured people. In addition, we prepared the emergency plan within five minutes as well, including the experts for examinations and operations,” said Shen Jianhua, political commissar at the PLA 101 Hospital.
More than 40 experts have been brought in to treat the injured.
“Most of the seriously injured have suffered head and rib injuries,” said Shen.
